Starting Off a New Program

I get stale if I do the same thing for too long. For quite a while I was doing Beachbody programs – Power 90, P90X and INSANITY – but I grew a bit stale and got away from consistently working out every day. So after heading to Las Vegas for over a week and eating like a pig, gaining 10 pounds in the process, it felt like time for a change.

After some research and thought I decided to go with the 12-week Kris Gethin plan on Bodybuilding.com  Kris’s program works on both gaining muscle and cutting fat. Kris is a popular Hollywood trainer. The plan’s basics:

  1. A strict, high protein, medium carb, low fat diet
  2. Consistent cardio done at a moderate pace, normally twice a day, 20 minutes in the morning and 20 more after each workout
  3. A heavy lifting resistance training regime.

One thing that attracted to me about the program is that it was one Kris actually went through, and during the 12 weeks made daily videos of his workouts, along with key thoughts on his nutrition and supplementation philosophies. In fact, The best thing I like about the program are the videos.

Day One – Saturday – Legs

Started off the day with a 20 minute cardio – basically a walk and slow jog around my neighborhood. About noon I headed to the gym for the leg workout. You can see Kris’s video of the workout here. Wow, just wow. At the end my legs were jelly. The gym where I workout is on the second floor, and I was holding on to the stair rails for dear life to get back down. For my following 20 minute cardio, I copied Kris from his video and walked home. I don’t think I have ever walked so slow.

This is definitely a program that is going to challenge me.
